Common Questions
What should I expect during my first visit?
First visits usually consist of building your personalized patient account. We want to learn about you, your needs, your expectations, and your dental goals. Low radiation digital imaging x-rays, 3D scans (Itero), and intra-oral photos are often performed to allow us to help create a customized treatment plan that best fits your dental needs.
For first-time patients, it is best to arrive 10-15 minutes early to fill out patient forms. You can also print out the form HERE and bring the completed form to your appointment. We can’t wait to see you
Do you see children at your dental office?
Yes! We are a family-focused dental office. We recommend that children as early as 6 months visit our office so we can take a look at your child’s teeth and work on providing them a positive experience. These 30-minute appointments will help desensitize them to the dental office and introduce them to the importance of dental care at an early age.

How long does a tooth filling last?
Tooth fillings are a common dental procedure designed to restore the integrity and function of a tooth that has been compromised by decay or damage. The longevity of a tooth filling can vary significantly depending on several factors, including the type of material used, the location of the filling, and how well you maintain your oral hygiene. Typically, fillings can last anywhere from 5 to 15 years.
Amalgam fillings, which are made from a mixture of metals, are known for their durability and can often last 10 to 15 years. Composite fillings, which are designed to match the color of your teeth, generally last about 5 to 7 years. However, advancements in dental materials are constantly improving the lifespan of these fillings. Regular dental check-ups at Excel Dental in Escondido, CA, can help monitor the condition of your fillings and ensure they are replaced when necessary to maintain your dental health.
Is a dental filling painful?
The thought of getting a dental filling can be daunting, especially if you’re concerned about pain or discomfort. However, modern dentistry has made significant strides in minimizing pain and enhancing patient comfort during procedures. Most dental fillings are performed under local anesthesia, which numbs the area around the affected tooth, ensuring that you feel little to no pain during the procedure.
You might experience minor discomfort or sensitivity after the anesthesia wears off, but this typically subsides within a few days. At Excel Dental, Dr. Vivian Huynh and Dr. Brian Luong prioritize patient comfort and employ the latest techniques to make the experience as stress-free as possible. If you have any concerns or anxiety about dental procedures, don’t hesitate to discuss them with your dentist, who can offer solutions to help you feel at ease.
How long does a crown last on a tooth?
Dental crowns are an excellent solution for restoring the strength and appearance of a damaged tooth. They are designed to encase the entire visible portion of a tooth, providing protection and improving its aesthetic appeal. On average, a dental crown can last between 10 to 15 years, but with proper care, some crowns can last even longer.
The longevity of a crown depends on several factors, including the material used (such as porcelain, metal, or a combination), your oral hygiene habits, and lifestyle factors like diet and teeth grinding. Regular dental visits to Excel Dental in Escondido, CA, are crucial for monitoring the condition of your crown and addressing any issues promptly. Practicing good oral hygiene, such as brushing twice a day, flossing daily, and avoiding habits that can damage your crown, will help extend its lifespan.
How long will a dental bridge last?
Dental bridges are a popular option for replacing missing teeth, helping to restore your smile and maintain the proper alignment of your bite. Like other dental restorations, the longevity of a dental bridge depends on various factors, including the materials used, the location in your mouth, and how well you care for your dental health.
On average, a dental bridge can last between 5 to 15 years. Bridges made from high-quality materials and those that receive proper care tend to last longer. Good oral hygiene practices, such as regular brushing, flossing, and visiting your dentist at Excel Dental for routine check-ups, are essential for maintaining the health of your bridge and the surrounding teeth. Additionally, avoiding habits like chewing on hard objects and using your teeth as tools can prevent unnecessary wear and tear on your dental bridge.
Incorporating these practices into your daily routine can significantly enhance the longevity of your dental restorations, ensuring that your smile remains healthy and vibrant for years to come. At Excel Dental in Escondido, CA, Dr. Vivian Huynh and Dr. Brian Luong are committed to providing exceptional care and guidance to help you achieve optimal dental health.
