What is Invisalign?
Invisalign aligners are custom-made, nearly invisible plastic trays that gently move your teeth into place over time. You wear a series of aligners, and each one is slightly different from the last, so your teeth shift in small steps. Small attachments are sometimes bonded to teeth to help the aligners grip and guide movement. Because the aligners are removable, you take them out to eat, drink, and clean them.
What Invisalign can treat
Invisalign can address several common alignment concerns. Aligners suit some cases better than others, and our dentists will tell you honestly which group your case falls into at your consultation.
Crowding
When teeth do not have enough room, they can overlap or twist. Invisalign can create space and move teeth into a more even arrangement.
Gaps
Spaces between teeth can often be closed with aligners, though some gaps are better treated another way.
Bite concerns
Overbites, underbites, crossbites, and open bites can sometimes be improved with aligners. More complex bite problems may be more predictable with braces, and we will say so if that is the case for you.
Is Invisalign right for you?
Invisalign tends to be a good fit for people who can commit to wearing their aligners as directed and who have mild to moderate alignment concerns. Braces may be the more predictable choice for some complex bite problems. After your scan, we will give you a clear answer about which route makes the most sense for your teeth.
How Invisalign works at Excel Dental
Invisalign tends to be a good fit for people who can commit to wearing their aligners as directed and who have mild to moderate alignment concerns. Consultation
We start with an exam, digital x-rays, a 3D scan, and photos of your smile.
Custom plan
We map out your treatment plan using your digital scan, so every step is based on your own teeth.
New trays on a schedule
Each set of aligners is made for one stage of movement. You wear each set for a set period before moving on to the next.
Wearing your aligners
Aligners work best when you wear them as directed, which usually means about 22 hours a day. Take them out only to eat, to drink anything other than water, and to brush and floss.
When they are out, keep them in their case, not wrapped in a napkin, which is an easy way to lose them. Clean your aligners each time you put them back in, and carry your case with you so you can store them safely at restaurants and during the day.
Paying for Invisalign
Your fee depends on your treatment plan, and we will give you a clear estimate after your consultation so there are no surprises. We are primarily an out-of-network, fee-for-service practice, so we can check your dental benefits and help you understand what your plan may cover. We also accept SunBit, a third-party payment plan, so you can spread out payments.
Insurance & Payment
Fair, Fixed Rate
At Excel Dental, we are primarily an out-of-network or “fee-for-service” dental-care provider. This allows us to charge a fair, fixed rate for procedures rather than having to apply extra fees required by third-party insurance companies.
Whatever your situation and budget, we are dedicated to providing you with straightforward estimates and helping you navigate any financial obstacles you may be facing.
We accept most dental insurance
Common Questions
How long does Invisalign take?
It depends on how far your teeth need to move. Mild cases can wrap up in under a year, while more involved ones take longer, and we will give you a realistic timeline for your own smile after your scan.
Does Invisalign hurt?
Most people feel some pressure or mild soreness when they start a new set of aligners, and it usually fades within a few days. Soft foods and over-the-counter pain relievers can help in the meantime.
Do I need a retainer after Invisalign?
Yes. Teeth tend to drift back after they are straightened, so a retainer keeps them where you finished. We will set up a wear schedule with you, which usually means full-time at first and then nights.
Is Invisalign as effective as braces?
For many cases it can be, but aligners only work when you wear them as directed, and some complex cases are handled more predictably with braces. We will tell you honestly which option fits your teeth.
Do I need any dental work done before I start Invisalign?
Often, yes. Your aligners are built from a digital scan of your teeth, so any needed restorative work is usually finished first, and we will review that at your consultation.
